Reposted from Tumblr, and polished a little bit in the process. Because boy, did it need it. Slightly image-heavy, but not as much as the Fire Emblem post from a while back.

Contains spoilers for chapter 139. )

Whether or not you've played the first Shin Megami Tensei game, if you're a fan of the mainline games, there's a good chance you're familiar with the text that appears in its intro sequence.

What do we know about this text? Well, at first glance, it's easy to identify as Hebrew, and judging by all the "el"s in there, it has to be something to do with God. (Big surprise there, right?) I got curious and decided to do some digging into what it actually means. Unfortunately, it's not as simple as translating it from Hebrew into English, and it wouldn't be even if I spoke Hebrew.

Includes the meanings of the text on the SMT pentagram, too! )

While going through my old bookmarks, I found a FE7 fansite maintained by two people, one of whom draws fanart and another who writes what we'd call meta. The site hasn't been properly updated in almost two years, but while looking through it, I found something I'd failed to notice before--a big post detailing the owners' adventure in reproducing their idea of a meal you'd find in Pherae! I decided to try my hand at translating it.

The text by the owner of the site who does the most writing, Kawagishi. The cover art is by Mizuyama. The site itself is here: be warned that it's almost all Hector/Eliwood and if you click links blindly you might find something NSFW.

Anyway! Without further ado:

A Day of Pheraean Cuisine! )
